“We weren’t prepared” – Jarome Luai’s comments make Wigan Warriors victory sweeter

Wigan Warriors have defeated Penrith Panthers in dramatic fashion and pre-match comments made by absent Panthers star Jarome Luai will make the win even sweeter.

Luai is set to head to Wests Tigers at the end of the season so this match would most likely have been one of his last chances to be part of a World Club Challenge-winning team.

Unfortunately for him, the Panthers came up against a Wigan Warriors side that wouldn’t be beaten as they displayed some exceptional defence.

Abbas Miski opened the scoring before Nathan Cleary put the Panthers ahead. A Kruise Leeming score restored the home side’s lead before Dylan Edwards burrowed over just before half-time to make it 12-10.

Wigan managed to shut out the Panthers in the second-half and the lone score came from Jake Wardle however he looked very short of the line, something that has angered former NRL man Josh Mansour who called out the “bias refereeing”.

Wardle’s try was given and Wigan managed to hang on for a famous victory though, and when they hear what Luai said pre-match then they’ll be all the more content with the win.

“We are definitely prepared” – Luai’s comments show Wigan Warriors beat NRL’s very best

Luai featured in the Panthers loss to St Helens last year and he’s revealed that the club weren’t prepared for that game, but he made it clear that they were ready for Wigan.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “Last year against St Helens we weren’t prepared and we knew that, but this year we are definitely prepared.

“The boys want to get their hands on the trophy, we know what we’re up against but we know we have the quality.

“In camp the preparation has been good, we have to give thanks for Warrington for helping us prepare with that training session on Tuesday.”

He continued: “I’ll be watching from the sidelines hoping the boys get the job done but I have full confidence that they will, we know what we have to do.”

This time there will be no excuses about being unprepared, something that will make Wigan Warriors fifth World Club Challenge win their sweetest yet.
