Simon Grix admits Hull FC got what they deserved for their performance against Leeds Rhinos on Friday night. The Black and Whites have won just three games all season but they were handed their heaviest defeat of the campaign so far by Leeds, who chalked up a 68-6 win at Headingley.
The Rhinos ran in 10 tries on the night with Harvey Barron getting over the line in the second half to make sure Hull weren’t nilled by Brad Arthur’s rampant side, who required golden point to beat bottom of the table London Broncos last time out.
The result has left Hull fans seething on social media, and Grix could be heard slamming his players once more after full-time for their unacceptable showing in West Yorkshire.
“It’s embarrassing,” the Hull FC interim boss said after the game, per Hull Live. “We’re on the end of a hiding. I thought Leeds clicked tonight, and everything did go for them
“We didn’t get much by the way of decisions, but you don’t when you’re getting dominated like that. We didn’t help ourselves within. Sadly, we’re continuing to find out bits about each other, and it’s not the nice stuff.
“We’re just not tough enough to defend for ourselves and each other when they come along, unfortunately, and it’s been a problem all year. We’ve managed to mask it on occasion, but it was certainly evident again tonight.”
He added: “We were nowhere near the right level to play in Super League. We’re doing it wrong constantly, we’re doing it okay now and then, and a couple of plays here and there, but too much of the time, we’re way off it.
“We’ve practiced on what we were going to do with the ball, and we didn’t have it. We’ve heard it a million times, but it is about your attitude and what you do. Again, not everyone is going to be right, but our attitude towards covering up for each other is not there.
“The resilience, as I said, and the ability to be there for each other, are just not there. We’re not tough enough. We were as bad as we’ve been all year. We saw some ugly sides of behaviours. We had no resilience, and we got what we deserved.”
