“We got beat in every department” – Price reacts to Headingley thrashing

Warrington head coach Steve Price could not hide his disappointment following his side’s 36-0 defeat against Leeds Rhinos last night.

Tipped by many prior to the season, the Wolves have lost three of their five games so far and have not won an away fixture in Super League since July.

Speaking after the match, Price took nothing away from a Leeds team that look a different proposition under Richard Agar in 2020.

“We got beat in every department tonight,” he said. “The ruck speed was way too fast, they were far superior with their pressure.

“They did everything at a high speed – more intent and more ruthless.

“We didn’t do the basics of rugby league. When you are completing at 18 from 31 then you are never going to give yourself a chance.”

It’s the second time in four years Warrington have been nilled at Headingley having suffered a 40-0 defeat at the hands of the Rhinos in 2017.

Despite the heavy loss, Price believes it could be the reality check his players needed as the Super League season starts to take shape.

“One thing I do know is that three weeks ago we dished up a quality performance against a great football team in St Helens.

“I’m confident we can turn it around, we have just maybe fallen in love with ourselves a little bit.

“I have got a group of men there that really care about each other, but we have got to have a hard look at ourselves.

“We have a responsibility to our fans and to our town and that’s a performance all coaches would not be happy with.”
