Wayne Bennett’s shock new coaching role revealed

Wayne Bennett will be the new head coach of Brisbane’s second NRL team, the Dolphins.

Speculation has been surrounding the admittance of a 17th NRL side in recent times, with the Redcliffe Dolphins getting the nod – though they will not be called ‘Redcliffe’.

The major coup at the centre of the rise though is the proposed appointment of veteran head coach Bennett, who narrowly missed out on yet another shot at glory with the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2021.

Bennett was head coach of Great Britain on their ill-fated tour of Australia in 2019 and subsequently left his post to return to the NRL, but his appointment will certainly send the transfer market into a frenzy as the Dolphins will need to build a 30-man roster as well as a supporting coaching staff before taking to the field in 2023.

The Dolphins are said to have $70 million worth of assets as well as $20 million in cash reserves, making the Brisbane club one of the richest in the NRL.
