Watson reveals he dropped two players as he gives injury update

Huddersfield Giants came up short against St Helens on Thursday with a much changed team and it got worse for the Giants when they lost new signing Harvey Livett to injury.

Watson gave a debut on him:

“He felt his calf, he’s had an issue ion pre-season with his calf so we made sure he was right. Just before half time he said he felt his calf pulling and tightening up, so we took him off because if we put him on for 10 minutes and it actually goes then he’d be out for a hell of a lot longer. Because off his first half performance he’d continue to be our left back-rower if he continued like that week in week out.

Watson also revealed that both Jake Bibby and Leroy Cudjoe had been dropped after defeat to Wigan Warriors:

“Three of them, obviously the wings. We made a couple of errors there last week which led to tries and that’s how we conceded against Wigan. Wigan didn’t break us down last week so like I say our defence is kind of on top at the moment, we just need to eradicate them errors that result in tries and we did that today. They had to work for their tries.”

Oliver Wilson however was out through injury: “He’s definitely not a dropped, he’s got a bad back. He turned up at training yesterday telling me to jab him up but we’re five weeks in and we want people fit going forward.”

Watson also confirmed that it was the same with Tui Lolohea.
