Watene-Zelezniak contract dispute alerts Super Leagues big clubs

Reports from Australia that New Zealand Captain Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has requested an immediate release from his Penrith Panthers contract has caught the attention of the top clubs in Super League .

Poor form has seen the 23 year old fall out of favour at Penrith Stadium and he has even been omitted from the Panthers reserve grade for their up and coming game against Wentworthville .

With the NRL transfer deadline day only 6 weeks away , DWZ has requested an immediate release from his Panthers contract as he looks to secure another club until the end of the season , and this looks set to be granted .  Parramatta Eels are favourites to sign him and could find a place in their back line for him straight away but it’s believed that if talks fall through a deal could be agreed for him to come to Super League , obviously he would be expensive but clubs with marquee space would be able to accommodate the star who is comfortable right across the back line .

His signing would be a major coup for our domestic competition and hopefully put bums on seats  as we approach the business end of the season , falling on the back of some big pre season signings like Konrad Hurrell and Blake Austin , both who have been stand outs for their clubs this year .

All clubs in Super League are allowed 2 marquee signings , which means their salary cap value is limited to £150,00 (£75,000 if club trained ) . Clubs are expected to agree to raise this to 3 or 4 for the 2020 season .
