A week ago, after Champions St Helens dismantled potential title rivals Warrington 28-2, there was talk of them going the season unbeaten as they go in search of a record fourth consecutive Super League title.
After that fifth win in a row, St Helens had just conceded 28 points all season and were tipped to easily defeat Toulouse in France.
However, Toulouse had been steadily improving at home going within one point of ending Wigan’s unbeaten start in their last home game as well as pushing Warrington close prior to that.
But surely the Champions, even without Alex Walmsley, Sione Mata’utia and Joe Batchelor, would have enough to defeat the French side, right?
After a superb and entertaining contest in which Toulouse gave as good as they got, they found themselves trailing by just two going into the dying minutes of the game thanks to a Chris Hankinson try and then the unthinkable happened.
A cut out ball from French hero and 2018 Lance Todd winner Tony Gigot put Paul Macron in for a try to make it 22-20 and give Toulouse a shock win at the expense of the Champions. It was Toulouse’s first win in the league and they couldn’t have asked for a more historic one as they came up with perhaps the biggest surprise result in Super League history.
You can watch the moment they won the game here as Gigot’s pass put in Macron for the winner after Toulouse themselves put it on Twitter:
