Watch: Morgan Knowles’ amazing game saving tackle against Salford Red Devils

Last night Salford came very close to shocking Champions St Helens.

The Saints did it tough losing four players to the sin bin during the contest which ended 14-10 with two Tommy Makinson penalties proving the difference in the end for the Champions.

Salford should be credited for their performance with tries from Morgan Escare on his 150th Super League appearance and one from former Saint Matt Costello nearly giving the Red Devils a famous win over the Super League Champions.

However. it simply wasn’t to be for Salford although they did come within metres of snatching the win at the very end of the game and would have done but for a superb try saving tackle from St Helens loose-forward Morgan Knowles.

Knowles, who is widely regarded as Super League’s best 13 having been named in the last three Dream Teams, showed great pace to chase Chris Atkin down who looked set to snatch the win for Salford as he broke down field following an intercept.

However, a lunging effort from Knowles saw Atkin hauled down denying him a certain try and Salford a certain win. The Red Devils may feel a touch hard down by with Jack Welsby then receiving a second yellow of the game for holding down to give his teammates a chance to recover and hold on for the win.

Nonetheless, we should take nothing away from the tackle from Knowles or indeed Salford’s performance.

You can now watch Knowles’ great tackle after Super League’s official Twitter page shared a video of the game saving moment from one of the Champions’ key men.
