WATCH: Is this the most brutal Super League moment ever?

A Grand Final can bring out the best in players, but it can also bring out the worst as the rugby league fraternity found out in 2014.

In just the second minute of a St Helens-Wigan showpiece event at Old Trafford, a ruckus between Saints’ Lance Hohaia and Wigan’s Ben Flower appeared to take place in back play following a Blake Green kick.

With Hohaia laid on the floor and Flower standing over him, it was obvious that the Warriors prop had floored him in some way, but the way in which Saints players rushed to take their anger out on Flower suggested that there was more than met the eye.

Indeed, on camera replays, Flower had punched the diminutive Saints halfback which rocked Hohaia off his feet. Unfortunately, what followed was one of the most horrendous moments ever seen on a rugby league field.

The Wigan prop chose to launch another punch on Hohaia as he was laid on the floor, much to the horror of commentators, fans and viewers.

Referee Phil Bentham had no choice but to give Flower his marching orders as Saints went on to win 14-6. The Welsh international was handed a six-match ban.

Hohaia elbowed him in the face first. Flowers saw red. Both should have been sent off.
