Watch: “Freakish” and impossible conversion

There were two draws down under today.

First former Wigan Warriors star and Leeds Rhinos target Oliver Gildart debuted for the NRL’s newest club The Dolphins.

The Dolphins have former England and Great Britain coach Wayne Bennett at the helm but he wasn’t at the game today with former St Helens coach and three time Super League Champion Kristian Woolf in charge of the game.

The Dolphins defended magnificently all game and led 22-18 late on only for a late equaliser levelled matters.

Sadly for the North Queensland Cowboys, who took on the Dolphins in a Queensland derby, the conversion attempt was woeful.

Things were very different in the other Queensland derby today which also ended in a draw between Brisbane Broncos and Gold Coast Titans which ended 24-all as fullback Reece Walsh, who is the man keeping England star Herbie Farnworth out of the number one shirt with the England star at centre.

An amazing play from Walsh was part of the reason behind the game ending 24-all.

Walsh produced a “freakish” conversion at 16-6 to make it 18-6. His effort from the touchline looked headed well wide but like a perfect freekick in football the effort curved round and sailed through the uprights to make it 18-6.

Without this conversion, which Sky Sports has likened to Roberto Carlos, the Broncos could have lost.
