Watch: ELEVEN Bradford and Wigan u19’s players banned after mass brawl

An ugly brawl in an under 19’s game between Bradford and Wigan has resulted in 11 players receiving suspensions.

Despite all the bans dished out, only Joe Shorrocks and Bradley Gallagher were actually sent off in the game at Odsal.

But after studying all the footage from the match on Wednesday 1 May, the RFL’s Match Review Panel astonishingly charged 11 players.

Nine of those were issued with one-match bans, with Wigan’s Callum Green handed a further game for his involvement in the melee.

Bradford’s Keelan Foster also received a two-match ban but his extra punishment was due to a dangerous tackle five minutes from full-time.

An RFL spokesman said: “This type of incident is not a common occurrence, and discipline within the game at all levels must be paramount. It is rare for so many players to be suspended from a single incident, but again it is important that all players, of whatever age, realise this sort of conduct is unacceptable, and carries consequences.

“All our clubs have an excellent record at this level of working with their players to reinforce the message conveyed by any suspensions, and we are confident the same will apply here.

“The players and clubs do have the right to challenge their punishment, although none have yet advised us that they will be doing so.”
