Yesterday, St Helens centre Ben Davies got a rare taste of Super League action for the Champions last night in a very youthful side complete with seven debutants.
The game came just one day after Davies’ 22nd birthday and was a fantastic birthday present for him as he continued his development alongside plenty of exciting young Saints.
It wasn’t the result he’d have wanted but the young side played valiantly losing just 30-10 against a virtually full strength Castleford team. It will stand him and others in the 17 in good stead but especially Davies who came up with one of the game’s highlights.
Earlier in the peace, Davies’ edge were caught out by Jason Qareqare who went on to score a lovely try having signed a new deal recently.
But later in the first half, when Qareqare looked set for another try, Davies flew across with a huge tackle to take him into touch.
It was a massive hit one that not only took Qareqare out but also saw a cameraman taken out as well.
It seems the cameraman in question is okay, everyone certainly hopes he is, but such a try saving tackle does deserve recognition and the Saints have obliged sharing footage of the tackle on social media – another fantastic post from the forward thinking Saints.
