Watch as England star Mikey Lewis goes head to head with Samoa during passionate Siva Tau

England

England and Samoa played out a feisty and ill-tempered first Test at the Brick Community Stadium in Wigan on Sunday.

Ultimately, it was Shaun Wane’s side who claimed the deserved win, with England scoring six tries to win 34-18 over the Samoans. Things threatened to boil over and tempers flared at points of the game, though, and it’s fair to say a passionate and hostile Siva Tau set the tone for that before a ball had even been kicked.

Laying down the challenge to England, Samoa got up close and personal with their opposition during their performance. England stood firm and stared the tourists down, though, and it certainly made for an captivating watch.

Gordan Chan Kum Tong could be seen going head to head with Mikey Lewis at one point, with the Hull KR man failing to take a backwards step, while Francis Molo and Morgan Knowles could be seen having a stand off after the performance had finished.

It’s fair to say passions were running high then as the two sides prepared themselves for kick-off.

Speaking about the performance during half-time, BBC pundit Jamie Peacock said: “It got a little bit feisty as they got closer and closer. Mikey Lewis loves this kind of thing.”

Jon Wilkin added: “How good would have been if we had a football incident there and Mikey Lewis had taken a dive, go down and make the most of it.”

It’s a performance rugby league fans will be treated to once more on Saturday at Headingley and it’s probably fair to say we can expect more of the same with bad blood being carried over from the first Test.
