Warriors forward apologises for middle finger gesture

New Zealand Warriors prop Matt Lodge has sent a heartfelt apology out on his Instagram profile after gesturing the middle finger to the Gold Coast crowd following his second half sinbinning at the weekend.

Lodge has been banned three times this year and it’s likely to be a fourth after being spotted on camera raising his middle finger to Titans supporter as he walked off in the 65th minute.

Jazz Tevaga and Kane Evans had already been shown yellow cards, with Lodge making it a hat-trick, with former St Helens boss and current Warriors had coach Nathan Brown slamming his side’s ill-discipline.

The NRL.com website said Lodge “faces the prospect of more pain’’ after his gesture to the crowd.

“Any incident that occurs on the playing paddock falling under the match review committee’s remit,’’ it said.

Brown said the discipline issues “have to be addressed’’.

“You can’t ignore it because you don’t want it happening again.”

Lodge himself said he was ’embarrassed’ by his actions:
