We’ve got another huge Super League play-off fixture tonight, as St Helens visit Warrington Wolves in the second eliminator clash.
Saints were on top when the sides met last year at this stage, but most recently, Warrington won 16-2 in the league, while they also beat then 24-10 in July.
On top of that, the Wolves won the Challenge Cup quarter-final 31-8 at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
Therefore, they will be going into this as favourites – but never write off the Saints.
St Helens team news
Saints had a number of doubts going into this game, with Curtis Sironen suffering another set-back a couple of weeks back to slow down his recovery.
Meanwhile, Alex Walmsley’s illness made him a doubt for this one, too.
However, Wellens told Serious About RL this week that Moses Mbye is likely out for “three or four games”, meaning he will not feature in this game. That’s due to a calf injury, and he’ll be fighting to get back to fitness if they start making their way towards a Grand Final.
Walmsley has made it, but Sironen is not included in the squad, as Jonny Vaughan is the only player coming into the squad that wasn’t part of it last week.
Warrington Wolves team news
Sam Burgess will be breathing easier now, as Paul Vaughan has returned to the squad after being suspended for three matches after a sending-off against Leigh.
Meanwhile, centre Rodrick Tai (ankle) has returned after a minor injury concern kept him out last week against London, and Joe Philbin (calf) is a doubt but is named in the squad.
Max Wood drops out, as does Cai Taylor-Wray, who was impressive in Matt Dufty’s absence.
They may have only won five of the 31 meetings between the sides at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, but with a strong squad available, they’ll be confident.
