St Helens have been boosted by the timely return of Jack Welsby as they push to secure a play-off place. The Saints travel to the Halliwell Jones Stadium to take on Warrington Wolves on Saturday afternoon knowing that only a win will do as they look to secure a spot in the top six.
Paul Wellens’ side are fourth in the Super League table at present, six points behind Warrington, but only two above Catalans Dragons who have dropped into seventh in recent weeks. As such, with just three games of the regular season remaining, Saints will be doing all they can to pick up the points they need to kick on and secure their spot in the play-offs once more.
The return of Welsby, who has been sidelined since picking up a hamstring injury at the end of July, will come as a welcome boost then. It remains to be seen if the full-back will play against Warrington, but having trained earlier this week, Wellens will give him as much time as he needs to prove his fitness.
Welsby represents the only change to Saints’ 21-man squad, with Leon Cowan being the man to drop out.
Warrington, on the other hand, find themselves rooted in third, four points behind Hull KR and Wigan, who will go head to head on Friday night, with the League Leaders’ Shield up for grabs.
The Wire will be without Paul Vaughan, of course, with the prop serving the first game of his three-match ban. Vaughan is replaced by Max Wood in the fold in Sam Burgess’ only change.
