Warrington Wolves v Wakefield Trinity predicted teams as Sam Burgess answers injury questions

Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess heads to Vegas

Warrington Wolves take on Wakefield Trinity today with both teams on the back of a loss and with both suffering some key injury issues. With that in mind, we’ve predicted how each side could line up.

Sam Burgess’ side are back in England after their venture to Las Vegas, a week that was all positive until it came to the game as Wigan put Warrington to the sword with a dominant display.

The final score read 48-24 but Matt Peet’s side became merciful when it was 42-0 after an hour with Wire running in four tries in the final 15 minutes to leave Vegas with some respect.

Unfortunately, one of those tries saw the scorer injure himself which means Sam Burgess has injury issues to navigate as he looks to put his side back on track.

As for Wakefield Trinity, they’ve lost two tough tests after winning in Round One but Daryl Powell will want to return to his former club and set the record straight.

Here are our predicted teams for today’s clash at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Warrington Wolves predicted line-up

Warrington have seen Matty Ashton and Toby King both drop out of their squad from last week meaning their left edge has taken a major hit and Sam Burgess must work out how to fix that.

He’s drafted in Alfie Johnson and Rodrick Tai into the squad as two outside back choices but Tai looks the safest option. Burgess threw Arron Lindop in last season so he could do the same with Johnson, however, Tai makes a lot of sense.

He would likely play at right centre inside of Arron Lindp with Josh Thewlis swapping to the left wing on the outside of Stefan Ratchford. Burgess might have wanted Ratchford to play in the halves this week after Oli Leyland struggled in Vegas but Ratchford is his most dependable centre, providing Lindop moves to the wing.

There’s no change in the pack although Lachlan Fitzgibbon could still be sore after last week so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Jordy Crowther get the nod.

Warrington Wolves XIII: Matt Dufty; Arron Lindop, Rodrick Tai, Stefan Ratchford, Josh Thewlis; George Williams, Oli Leyland; Luke Yates, Danny Walker, Paul Vaughan; Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Dan Russell, Ben Currie

Interchanges: Sam Powell, Jordy Crowther, James Harrison, Joe Philbin

Wakefield Trinity predicted line-up

Wakefield see a player return from injury but it poses problems because Cam Scott’s return would be at the expense of Oliver Pratt who has seemingly been unleashed as a star of the future.

Scott can play in the second-row so assuming he is fit enough then he makes a smart option off the bench which is where the majority of Powell’s changes might come, partly on account of the strength of performance of his starters but also due to the injury to Thomas Doyle.

Doyle was one of the two players who dropped out and his absence could mean Harvey Smith gets time off the bench as the back-up hooker.

Matthieu Cozza was the other man to return and he’s straight in on the interchange bench as well alongside last week’s returnee Renouf Atoni.

Wakefield Trinity XIII: Max Jowitt; Lachlan Walmsley, Oliver Pratt, Corey Hall, Tom Johnstone; Jake Trueman, Mason Lino; Mike McMeeken, Liam Hood, Caleb Hamlin-Uele; Isaiah Vagana, Matty Storton, Jay Pitts

Interchanges: Renouf Atoni, Cam Scott, Matthieu Cozza, Harvey Smith
