Warrington Wolves v St Helens line-ups predicted with both backlines without key men

Warrington Wolves

Both Warrington Wolves and St Helens have made minimal changes to their squads for their quarter-final Challenge Cup tie on Sunday afternoon.

Warrington boss Sam Burgess has included Jordy Crowther and Josh Thewlis in his 21-man squad, with the pair replacing Stefan Ratchford and Dan Russell.

However, they still have a number of issues in the backs, with Matty Ashton still carrying a knock and both Toby King and Rodrick Tai having late fitness tests to see if they can make the matchday line-up.

It looks unlikely that King will be fit enough in time but Tai should start in the centres alongside Arron Lindop. Lindop played on the wing last weekend with Ben Currie as his centre partner but he could easily move out to the wing, allowing Ben Currie to move back into his preferred second-row position.

It’s a certainty that George Williams and Marc Sneyd continue in the halves with each complementing the other’s game, combining Sneyd’s kicking with Williams’ running game.

James Harrison should move back to prop after playing at loose forward last week, with Luke Yates being promoted off the bench to play in that role instead. The Wolves coach Burgess looks set to keep Lachlan Fitzgibbon in the second row with Ben Currie now moving back into the pack and filling the bench with brute force.

For St Helens boss Paul Wellens, he’s been forced to make one key change to his squad but he’s unlikely to ring in too many switches.

Centre Harry Robertson has started 2025 strongly but will be missing the quarter-final after failing his HIA test during last week’s game. Curtis Sironen also returns to the squad following the birth of his child.

With Robertson out, Saints are a little depleted in their backline, with Kyle Feldt, Lewis Murphy and now Roberston out. Jon Bennsion will continue on the wing and Dayon Sambou should retain his spot again.

In the centres, Mark Percival could partner Ben Davies in the centres but it’s likely that Percival and Sambou would be on one side, with Bennison and Davies pairing on the other.

In the pack, Wellens is unlikely to make many changes, other than Sironen coming back into the starting line-up and Matt Whitley moving to the bench.
