Warrington Wolves host Castleford Tigers tonight ahead of next week’s Challenge Cup Final and the team news is in.
Sam Burgess will of course be hoping his side pick up the two Super League points on offer with Wire having fallen adrift of the top six, but you’d argue that he’d be hoping for no injuries more so.
Warrington have been hit hard of late with injuries with Oli Leyland the latest to be confirmed, the young half ruled out for the remainder of the season after limping off against Hull KR last week.
There’s hope that George Williams will return next week but Burgess will be keen to just get to Wembley with as many healthy bodies as possible, something that could affect his selection.
As for Danny McGuire, any chance of Warrington rotation gives his side one of their best chances to get a win on the board and close that gap towards the Wolves.
Here’s how each team lines up.
Warrington Wolves team news
Paul Vaughan and Toby King both returned to the 21-man squad in major boosts whilst Jordy Crowther was named despite an ankle issue against Hull KR.
Of those, just Vaughan starts in what is a very strong Warrington side given who is available with Sam Burgess clearly following the philosophy of Willie Peters of trying to head into the game on the back of a win.
Sam Powell returns at hooker whilst Marc Sneyd is back in the halves with young Ben Hartill the utility option off the bench as he was last week.
Warrington Wolves XIII: Matt Dufty; Josh Thewlis, Rodrick Tai, Arron Lindop, Jake Thewlis; Stefan Ratchford, Marc Sneyd; Luke Yates, Sam Powell, Paul Vaughan; Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Adam Holroyd, Ben Currie
Interchanges: James Harrison, Max Wood, Joe Philbin, Ben Hartill
Castleford Tigers team news
Tom Amone misses out against Leeds due to a HIA. He was one of four changes to the 21-man squad with Judah Rimbu, George Griffin, Josh Hodson and George Hill being called up.
Of those four, two feature with George Griffin and George Hill both named among the interchanges. Joe Westerman is one of those named to the 21-man squad not to feature along with Hodson and Rimbu, whilst Cain Robb is 18th man.
Castleford Tigers XIII: Tex Hoy; Josh Simm, Zac Cini, Louis Senior, Innes Senior; Daejarn Asi, Rowan Milnes; Dan Okoro, Chris Atkin, Brad Singleton; George Lawler, Alex Mellor, Liam Horne
