Warrington Wolves suffer major blow as Daryl Powell provides injury latest on Ben Currie and Billy Magoulias

Whilst Ben Currie is expected to return for Warrington Wolves next weekend against the Catalans Dragons, the prognosis isn’t as good for one star in Daryl Powell’s ranks.

After two victories in two games, Powell’s men are one of three teams still unbeaten as the Wolves head to Toulouse Olympique on Saturday night.

But, a trio of Warrington players will not run out in the south of France.

On Currie, Powell told the Warrington Guardian: “He’s not too bad. He played last week with a sternum injury which hampered him during the game and he came off.

“We decided that he needed more time to recover.

“They are pretty difficult injuries to get over and I thought he struggled in the game – I probably would have brought him off a bit earlier if I had my time again.

“I think he’ll be okay for next week – we’ve got some big games coming up and I want him to be 100 per cent.”

But, for Connor Wrench, the centre is likely to be out for over a month.

“It’s obviously disappointing for him as he played against Leeds and looked sharp,” Powell said.

“We’ve got Toby (King) available but I’m disappointed for Connor and I’m looking forward to seeing how he grows through the year.”

Meanwhile, new signing Billy Magoulias is expected to be a number of weeks away from full fitness.

“Billy is a few weeks away yet – probably around four or five weeks,” Powell continued.

“He’s got to get back fit as well.

“He hasn’t run yet but he’s got his boot off and is doing a fair bit of work with the physios and conditioners, but he’s going to need to get himself ready and primed to play.
