Warrington Wolves’ star signing Matt Dufty set for scan after debut injury

Matt Dufty took to Super League like a duck to water today.

He set up the opening try for Jake Wardle with a lovely cut out pass before he set the field position for Matty Ashton’s second with a tremendous burst in which he went round four or five players down the Huddersfield right.

However, at the end of the game he was withdrawn after limping for a lot of the second half and coach Daryl Powell revealed that he would need a scan on his foot this week to reveal the severity of the injury: “I thought he looked really sharp. I thought we could’ve got him a little bit more ball in the first half but he’s got an injury there. He’ll get a scan on Monday. He was limping around in the second half.

“It’s a foot injury. Fingers crossed it’s not a bad one.”

Nonetheless, Powell believes the future is only bright for Dufty and Warrington: “He looked sharp, dangerous, very quick and beats people. An exciting player. I think he’ll be an outstanding Warrington player.”

There was another injury blow to Thomas Mikaele who was exceptional coming off the bench.

He too ended the day limping: “He rolled his ankle I think. I don’t think it’s too bad.”

Powell also gave an update on George Williams who missed the game with a migraine: “He has issues with it, he’s got a medical issue that arises every now and again. He has medication for it but sometimes he can’t get rid of it.”
