Warrington Wolves star open to NRL return

George Williams was one of England’s star players in the Rugby League World Cup and the Warrington Wolves halfback has even been nominated for the Golden Boot.

The ex-Wigan Warriors man has stood out despite a difficult year with the Wolves only finishing 11th in Super League.

He even looked like England’s saviour when he set up Herbie Farnworth’s try to send Saturday’s semi-final into Golden Point.

In the end, his brilliant performances weren’t enough to get England to the final but he’ll be hoping they can bring Super League success in 2023.

That said, the former Canberra Raiders halfback hasn’t ruled out a return to the NRL.

Speaking to Fox League, Williams shed light on his mid-season exit in 2021 and said he wouldn’t write off a return.

“I’d definitely never write it off, I loved my time out there, it was just the pandemic,” Williams said to Fox League.

“The missus got pregnant so it was a bit of a shit time and we didn’t know when we could go home, a lot of rubbish behind what happened.

“But I’d never write off coming back, I really loved it.

“There’s no hard feelings with Ricky, it is what it is. They gave me an opportunity and it didn’t end great but I loved my time in Canberra.”
