Warrington Wolves hooker Danny Walker has assessed the Super League competition for 2025 with three rival challengers outlined.
In Sam Burgess’ first season at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, Warrington had a much-improved year as they finished third and were also Challenge Cup finalists, but ultimately it marked another year without silverware.
Danny Walker, who has just signed a new five-year deal, explained that he snubbed the NRL in order to achieve his dream of lifting a Grand Final with Warrington – something that the Wolves are seen as second-favourites to do according to the bookies.
The England international told BBC Radio Merseyside that his club must improve if they’re to make good on his dream of lifting the Grand Final at Old Trafford.
“We’ve got to improve,” the 25-year-old explained.
“We’ve got the utmost belief in each other, from the coaching staff all the way down to the players. It’s just going to be an exciting time.
“We’re training really well, training really hard. I’m sure every other team is too, but we’re excited for it.”

In 2024 it was Hull KR who ended Warrington’s Super League charge whilst Wigan Warriors outdid them in the Challenge Cup Final, but Walker has named a third team who he thinks will be challenging in 2025.
Asked if he believes Warrington will be viewed with a targe on their back on account of their much-improved season under Sam Burgess, the Wolves hooker stated: “Maybe, I think it’s still Wigan as the benchmark after they won the lot. We’ve got to improve.
“Everyone improves during the pre-season. I’m expecting Saints probably to have a bit of a say in it, 100 per cent. They’re signed pretty well too.”
St Helens have made just three signings, like Warrington, but all have come from the NRL. Ex-Wakefield winger Lewis Murphy returns whilst the class of Kyle Feldt and Tristan Sailot have also been added to Paul Wellens’ side.
Another of the teams to have recruited well is Hull KR, who Walker argued “have got a really good team on paper” as he tipped them to be “another team that are going to be right up there again”.
For Warrington, it’s simple though as Walker explained: “One thing we’re going to do is focus on ourselves. We believe in each other in this room, and we’ll see where it takes us.”
Warrington start their Super League season with a visit to Huddersfield Giants with the Wolves jetting off to Las Vegas later in the month to face Wigan Warriors.
