Warrington Wolves star named in surprise position for Salford Red Devils clash

Tonight’s fixture sees the resurgent Warrington Wolves welcome Salford Red Devils to the Halliwell Jones and the good news is that both sides are healthy.

It should be a highly competitive match as Salford look to get back in the win column following their upset defeat to Hull KR.

Meanwhile Warrington have brushed aside two teams who made the playoffs in 2022 and will be looking to add a third team to that list this week.

The game kicks off at 20:00.

TV coverage is live on Sky Sports Arena from 19:30.

The visitors had a squad that is unchanged from their loss to Hull KR but Joe Burgess will have had another week to get back to full fitness and match sharpness, which can only be positive news.

Salford’s left edge of Lafai and Burgess were shut down by KR centre Tom Opacic but with further match fitness perhaps the Red Devils can take advantage of Wire’s wingers.

As for Wire’, the forward pack is where they’ve been dominant this year but it’s also where they are missing stars with Josh McGuire out suspended, and both Gil Dudson and Matty Nicholson still out injured.

This sees Peter Mata’utia start in the second row with Greg Minikin in the centres in place of him.

It is a surprise move seeing him in the backrow. He has played fullback and in the halves in the past.

He does have power and pace and his brother Sione plays the role for St Helens.

With Matty Russell left out of the 21-man squad, Josh Thewlis stays on the wing alongside star Matty Ashton.
