Warrington Wolves star Matt Dufty victim of potential eye gouge

Warrington Wolves took on Toulouse Olympique last night in what was a rip-roaring, tense affair at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

However, there were a few instances of potential foul play that occurred throughout the night.

In the first-half, Warrington’s star signing Matt Dufty made a break, only to go down clutching his face after contact from Toulouse’s Tony Gigot.

Dufty has made quite the impression at the Halliwell Jones Stadium since making the mid-season move from Canterbury Bulldogs.

The Australian livewire has endured a nightmare few seasons both at the St George Illawarra Dragons and at Canterbury, but he looks to have settled in seamlessly in Cheshire.

Dufty, loved over in the UK, has revealed just how difficult it has been in Australia. He was often maligned in the Australian media and he is hoping to get away from that.

“I think it was more of a media standpoint. In the NRL they are a lot harsher and you are a lot more in the spotlight in Sydney,” Dufty told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“The Sydney teams get it a lot. I don’t read anything in the press but my mum, dad and missus were telling me that I was getting slammed- I was still playing good footy but I just needed a change.

“I said last year that I wasn’t ready to come to Super League but I’ve always wanted to come.

“It has been a goal for me to experience the world, a different competition. It felt like the right time. I was talking to Powelly earlier in the year and there was still time to sign for another NRL club.

“But I got really excited with the way he was selling Warrington and what he wanted to build and I want to help Warrington achieve something so it just felt like the right time.”
