Swinton Lions youngster Daniel Coop has signed for Warrington Wolves just months after joining up with the League One side. That’s according to Swinton, with nothing being announced by the Super League outfit as of yet.
Coop was plucked from Rochdale Mayfield’s amateur ranks by Swinton earlier in the off-season, with the 17-year-old emerging through the Lions’ ‘Elite Athletes with Potential Programme’. He has represented Ireland at youth level and as if to underline the talent he possesses he was named in the senior Ireland training squad ahead of their international clash with Scotland in October.
However, Coop wasn’t involved for Swinton against Whitehaven last weekend in the Challenge Cup and he will now take up a place within Warrington’s youth set-up, it seems. The club haven’t given up hope of being able to welcome Coop back to Heywood Road at some stage down the line, though.
A message on the club’s Facebook page, read: “17 years old Daniel Coop, whom we recruited from Rochdale Mayfield ahead of the current season, has been allowed to join Warrington Wolves.
“After further careful consideration it was felt that the immediate best interests of the player would be within the academy and reserve systems at Warrington. However, in consultation with the Wolves, we still hope to see Dan in a first team shirt at Swinton Lions in the not-too-distant future.
“Everyone at the Lions wishes Daniel the very best of luck.”
