Warrington Wolves reveal devastating news as head coach Daryl Powell forced to change side

Warrington Wolves have confirmed some devastating news that will have head coach Daryl Powell tearing his hair out.

That news is that youngster Connor Wrench will be out for nine months after injuring his ACL, with the centre/winger set to undergo surgery next week.

The club confirmed the horrendous news this afternoon.

Wrench has been one of the shining lights for Powell and Warrington in 2022 in what has been an overall poor season, with his strong carries and great finishes proving popular amongst the Wolves’ fans.

Earlier in the year, Wrench signed a three-year deal with his hometown club, and he revealed at the time that he was ecstatic to sign.

“I’m buzzing to have signed a new deal,” Wrench said.

“It’s massive for me being a Warrington lad to play for this club. It’s what you dream of watching from the stands as a kid and I play now with some of the lads who I grew up watching. It’s a big thing for me and I’m happy to continue to do that in the future.

“It’s been class having Powelly’s [Daryl Powell] support. As a player you want that belief from your coach. He’s given me a run on the wing now and has been helping me adjust to that.

“Hopefully I can get more games, more tries and we’ll be in that top six come the back end of the year.”

Warrington Wolves Head Coach Daryl Powell added: “I’m so pleased that Connor’s agreed to stay.

“At the moment I see him getting experience on the wing but he’s going to be a class centre for this club in the future. He’s grown physically in recent months and his speed is electric.

“Once he starts to grow his confidence and knowledge as a player then he can be anything he wants. Signing this new deal now gives him the platform to go on and prove how good he can be.”

It’s obvious that Wrench will bounce back from such a devastating injury with such a mature head on young shoulders.

Everyone at Serious About Rugby League passes on their well-wishes to Wrench in his recovery.
