Zane Musgrove has left Warrington Wolves by mutual consent to take up a contract with Oldham.
Musgrove spent a season and a half with Warrington, but reports emerged earlier this week of a bust up with a teammate after Sunday’s loss to Wakefield Trinity, with All Out Rugby League running that report.
As such, after making 38 appearances in primrose and blue, he has been allowed to leave the club with immediate effect.
The brief statement from Warrington read: “Warrington Wolves can confirm that Zane Musgrove has left the club by mutual agreement with immediate effect.
“We thank Zane for his contribution during his time at the Wire and wish him well in the next chapter of his career.”
The prop has wasted no time in finding a new club, with Championship side Oldham swooping to sign him on an 18-month contract.
It means that just seven days on from playing his last game for Warrington at Belle Vue on Sunday, he looks set to feature against Halifax Panthers this weekend in a move that few saw coming.
Musgrove becomes the latest former Super League man to sign for Oldham with his ex-Warrington teammate Josh Drinkwater representing the Roughyeds alongside the likes of Ben Davies, Gil Dudson, Eloi Pelissier, Ryan Lannon, Adam Milner and Matty Ashurst to name just a few.
Ex-Warrington Wolves man makes Oldham target clear
“It’s a very exciting opportunity and I know what I am going to bring to this team,” Musgrove told Roughyeds TV after signing. “I want to win stuff and looking at the Championship that is the first thing I want to go and win.
“I want to play footy more than anything having been in and out at Warrington, so that is the first goal. But I know that if I put in my best performances then I can take this club where I want to take this club and that is to potentially win it.
“Longy has big aspirations, and I am right on board with that. I am as hungry as ever, I am a competitor, and I like challenging myself which is why I am here.”
Head coach Sean Long added: “This is a major signing for us and I can’t wait to see Zane play in the Championship. Thanks to Bill (Quinn) and Mike (Ford) for getting this deal over the line, and I know our fans are going to love watching him in an Oldham shirt”.
