Warrington Wolves playmaker makes short-term loan switch

One of Warrington Wolves’ most exciting talents has made a loan move away from the club with immediate effect.

It’s been announced by Championship outfit Widnes Vikings, who Warrington knocked out of the Challenge Cup last weekend, have brought young full-back Cai Taylor-Wray in on an initial two-week loan deal.

Taylor-Wray has made just nine appearances for Warrington so far but in that time the full-back has racked up five tries, including two in three appearances this season.

One of those appearances came against Widnes when he deputised for Matt Dufty but with the Australian back in the frame for Super League games going forward, Wire have decided to loan their young full-back out.

He’s signed with the club’s dual registration partners Widnes with the Vikings announcing that deal and confirming that Taylor-Wray is likely to play this weekend against Doncaster.

A statement from Widnes announced: “Widnes Vikings are pleased to announce that Warrington Wolves fullback, Cai Taylor-Wray has joined the club on dual registration.

“Taylor-Wray featured for the Wire in Saturday’s Challenge Cup clash and joins for a minimum period of two weeks.”

Head Coach Allan Coleman said: “Cai is a great acquisition for us. I think a lot of our fans will have seen last week how quick he is. He’s just got electrifying pace and the way he carries the ball out of yardage, he’s so physical.

“He’ll bring so much to us, Doncaster has a nice wide pitch and I just think we’re lacking that bit of strike.

“Jack Owens is top quality but he’s more of a provider these days so we need someone playing alongside him that can finish things which Cai will bring.”
