Warrington Wolves PDRL game against Leeds Rhinos abandoned due to serious injury

Injuries are often part and parcel of playing rugby league.

With the rough and tumble nature of the sport, it is no surprise that players can be sidelined for weeks and months at a time if something goes wrong in a game.

But, sometimes an injury can occur that makes you wince in pain at the thought of something like that occurring.

Unfortunately, there were two serious injuries that occurred over the weekend.

Taking part in the incredible PDRL Festival on Sunday, Warrington Wolves unfortunately suffered a serious injury to one of their players in a clash with the Leeds Rhinos.

With both sets of players in full agreement, the match was abandoned.

With the Yorkshire Ambulance Service called, Warrington later gave a great update on the player in question, tweeting: “An update, our player received excellent care from the St John’s Ambulance & then NHS ambulance services, and also from Pinderfields Hospital for which we’re really grateful. He’s been taken home to get further care from his local hospital. Huge thanks to all involved.”

For Hull KR Ladies captain Aaliyah Brewster, things took a turn for the worse as she suffered a horrendous double leg break alongside a dislocated ankle in Rovers’ fixture against Widnes.

One spectator tweeted: “Following the serious injury to a Hull KR player the game is being moved to the adjoining pitch. Players from both sides visibly upset and not sure whether some can continue,” with the same man confirming the harrowing injury.

Everyone at Serious About Rugby League passes on their well-wishes to Aaliyah Brewster and hopes for a swift recovery.

Meanwhile, the men’s team have been hit with a major loss too, the club confirmed yesterday.

Luis Johnson left the field with a ruptured pectoral early on during KR’s clash against St Helens. Johnson is due to undergo surgery this week and will miss around 12 weeks.

Jordan Abdull (quad tear), Brad Takairangi (hamstring tear) are continuing their respective rehabilitations with the club and are managing well.

Kane Linnett is also progressing well following surgery on his ruptured bicep and may be available to feature within the team in the next two months.

Dan Okoro underwent surgery to repair a ligament in his wrist and looks to make a comeback in September.

Unfortunately, young Robin, Charlie Cavanagh, dislocated his kneecap during the reserves’ enthusiastic win over Huddersfield. He is expected to return to play within the next six weeks.

Hull KR will go up against Huddersfield Giants this Sunday with the game broadcast live on Sky Sports with Tony Smith’s men hunting a play-off spot.

Whilst the Robins are currently sitting in seventh, but only on points difference, the Giants are sitting pretty in the top four with head coach Ian Watson doing wonders in recent seasons at the John Smith’s Stadium.
