Oliver Holmes has had his one game suspension upgraded to a two match ban after the RFL decided his appeal was ‘frivolous.’

The Warrington Wolves forward was initially handed a Grade B careless high tackle, but on reflection, his charge was upgraded to a reckless high tackle, constituting an upgrade to two matches.

The RFL tweeted: “Warrington’s Oliver Holmes has been charged with a Grade B reckless high tackle. Holmes pleaded Guilty to a careless high tackle but was found Guilty of a reckless high tackle.

“Holmes was handed a one-match ban and £500 fine, with a further game added for a frivolous challenge.”

It follows the decision by the Disciplinary Match Review Panel to extend James Bentley’s three game ban to four after his appeal was too dismissed as ‘frivolous’.

The RFL has clearly put a marker down that such foul play will not be tolerated in 2022 with Holmes now missing Warrington’s fixture against Castleford Tigers on Thursday as well as the Wolves’ clash with Toulouse Olympique the week after.
