Warrington Wolves’ major signings set to continue as Daryl Powell makes big statement

Warrington Wolves have been in a bit of a pickle in the 2022 Super League season so far.

With just six wins from 16 games, the Wolves sit eight points above bottom side Toulouse Olympique and four points behind Castleford Tigers who occupy the last play-off spot.

During that time, head coach Daryl Powell has been increasingly active in the shop window trying to find new blood for his new lease of life at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Thomas Mikaele, Sam Kasiano, Gil Dudson, Matty Nicholson and Paul Vaughan have already signed whilst Mike Cooper will be leaving – and others are set to follow according to leading rugby league agent Craig Harrison – or Show Me The Money UK.

“They are in the biggest change that is happened in years,” Harrison said on The Full Eighty Minutes podcast.

“They are on about nine or ten retention changes next year, but Warrington will maybe have more – this is the biggest turnover of players you’ve ever seen at Warrington.”

Some of those expected to join Powell’s revolution are Canterbury Bulldogs livewire Matt Dufty and St George Illawarra Dragons forward Josh McGuire.

Dufty’s teammate, Paul Vaughan, was announced earlier in the week as a Warrington player after being at Canterbury for just one season.

Meanwhile, McGuire began his career at Brisbane Broncos, registering almost 200 appearances before moving to the North Queensland Cowboys in 2019.

Another 38 appearances later and 32-year-old McGuire joined St George where he has been for two seasons, but he has been told that he should find another club for next year.

Dufty has perhaps had the most troubling year at the Bulldogs with a number of poor performances leading to his dropping by former boss Trent Barrett.

Of course, Dufty has long been touted for a move to the northern hemisphere and was linked with a move to St Helens last season but nothing came of that.

Whether Warrington be signing any other Super League stars remains to be seen, but what an overhaul it is set to be at the Halliwell Jones.
