It’s been a busy day for reserves rugby.
Wigan, led by Challenge Cup winning hooker Brad O’Neill, defeated Wakefield who included recent arrival Kyle Evans on the wing.
Meanwhile, Hull FC defeated Huddersfield 56-6 whilst St Helens enjoyed a comfortable win over Castleford with Lewis Baxter scoring twice despite being named in the squad for tomorrow’s game against Wakefield in Super League.
The Tigers included first team talents Jason Qareqare, Cain Robb, Brad Martin and Sam Hall as the Saints have a return to young Matty Foster after a long term injury.
In the final reserves game of the day, Warrington battered Newcastle Thunder 80-4 with first teamers Connor Wrench and Matty Nicholson playing with Wrench crossing for an impressive four tries.
Both featured in last week’s loss to Castleford whilst Nicholson scored on debut against Catalans at the Magic Weekend after moving to Warrington from Wigan.
It was a surprise to see both dropped from the 17 and included in the reserves. The decision certainly didn’t pay off with the Wolves losing to Hull KR last night despite leading 22-12 late on.
The result today from the reserves has seen fans call for the reserves stars to feature in next week’s fixture against high flying Huddersfield who could be like a wounded animal after back-to-back defeats to St Helens and Catalans.
Send them Huddersfield next week! https://t.co/Jj2AMOVX4o
