Warrington Wolves in surprising move to host major event

Warrington Wolves will host the World’s Strongest Man at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, Sunday 28 August, 2022.

Reigning champion Paul Smith will be one of the athletes taking part and was impressed with the venue: “It’s amazing to see how far strongman has come,” Smith told the Warrington website.

“More and more shows are being held in major stadiums in front of huge crowds, and this marks a massive leap forward for England’s Strongest Man, one of the premier competitions.

“I can’t wait to defend my title. As well as bragging rights to being England’s Strongest, the top 3 will all gain a spot at UK’s Strongest Man which pulls in over 12,000 fans.”

Warrington Wolves CEO Karl Fitzpatrick added: “We’re really excited to be hosting England’s Strongest Man competition next August.

“The events that Glenn [Ross] and his team put together are first class and it’s great that Warrington will be home to the prestigious competition next year. The physicality and strength the athletes show certainly draws some parallels with Rugby League and hopefully it’s something our supporters can get behind and enjoy.

“With The Halliwell Jones Stadium also hosting three men’s Rugby League World Cup games next year, we’re hoping to attract more and more big events to our home ground from 2022 onwards.”
