Warrington Wolves’ George Williams sent for a scan

Warrington Wolves have been doing it very tough in the 2022 Super League season.

With a new head coach in Daryl Powell and a host of new signings including the likes of Peter Mata’utia, Oliver Holmes and Joe Bullock, Warrington are at the very beginning of a rebuild.

The Cheshire club finally stemmed their losing run at the weekend in a 4-0 win over Hull FC, though they did fail to score a try as did their opponents.

However, much of the pressure has fallen on the shoulders of former Wigan Warriors star George Williams, whose performances in 2022 have been put under the microscope.

A week’s hiatus in the England camp for a big win over the Combined Nations All Stars kickstarted the halfback into life with a brilliant performance and he appeared with a spring in his step against Hull on Friday night.

However, Williams was expected to join a media session with journalists this afternoon, only for Warrington’s number seven to be sent for a scan instead.

It will be difficult news for Powell ahead of such an important tie this weekend against Salford Red Devils at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, especially if the Wolves want to reach the Super League play-offs at the end of the season.

With Gareth Widdop already starting at fullback instead of in the halves, it could force Powell into a big change if Williams is not declared fit, with Stefan Ratchford playing in the halves alongside the former Canberra Raiders man.
