Warrington Wolves’ George Williams apologises to fans after Las Vegas letdown

Warrington Wolves captain George Williams has apologised to the club’s supporters for their showing in Las Vegas. The Wolves were backed by a large pocket of fans at the Allegiant Stadium, but they couldn’t give much to cheer as they succumbed to a heavy defeat against Wigan Warriors.

Matt Peet’s side ran in eight tries on the day to record a 48-24 win in Sin City with four tries coming in each half. It could have been very different had Toby King’s effort stood in the early stages of the contest, but ultimately Warrington were 42-0 down in the game before they found any sort of traction.

Arron Lindop got the Wolves‘ first before James Harrison, Matt Dufty and Matty Ashton scored to spare at least some of the club’s blushes in Vegas. However, it wasn’t enough to make the Warrington players feel better about their display and after the game, Williams issued a message to the fans who had made the trip.

“Sorry for the performance,” Williams said. “That’s the first time in a long time we’ve been done like that, it wasn’t good out there. Wigan were really good today, but we were way off defensively, to concede 48 is not good enough.

“It’s something we’ll review. We’re disappointed, it’s been a great week, but ultimately we didn’t perform when it mattered.”

The loss was the heaviest Sam Burgess has experienced as a head coach with his Warrington side usually so tough to break down even on a bad day. But, despite coming into the game on the back of two wins, their first defeat of the 2025 season will send Burgess back to the drawing board.

As such, Warrington will make the journey back to the UK knowing they have plenty to work on and Burgess, Williams and the rest of the Wolves team will be hoping for a much improved performance next time out against Wakefield Trinity.
