Warrington Wolves forward Sitaleki Akauola has reacted to his departure from the club in a heartfelt message.
The powerful Tongan forward has written a traditional Tongan farewell on Twitter: Fakamālō atu @WarringtonRLFC ʻi he ma’u faingamālie”.
The statement loosely translates to “Thank you for the opportunity”.
The 29-year-old made 68 appearances for the Wolves after arriving from the NRL following spells at Wests Tigers and Penrith Panthers.
Akauola was part of the Warrington side that won the Challenge Cup at Wembley in 2019, with his name synonymous with bulldozing runs.
A club statement released earlier in the season read: “Everyone at the club would like to thank Sita for his efforts and wishes him all the best for the next stage of his career.”
It is thought that Akauola’s next destination will be the Salford Red Devils, but that has yet to be revealed.
