Warrington Wolves’ favourite Stefan Ratchford lands coaching role after retirement

Stefan Ratchford will remain with Warrington Wolves in a coaching capacity, it has been confirmed.

Ratchford hung up his boots at the end of the 2025 Super League season, calling time on a Super League career that spanned 19 years. A majority of his time as a player was spent in the primrose and blue of Warrington, making 359 appearances for the club between 2012 and 2025.

And, he has now taken up the opportunity to join the Wolves’ coaching staff ahead of the 2026 campaign.

Ratchford has started work as a transition coach at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, working with those youngsters who are making the step up into the first-team environment from the academy ranks.

He’ll assist in their develop while also monitor those who are away from the club on loan during the season.

It’s a role that sees Ratchford embark on a new career since retiring as a player, with the Wire man remaining at the club where he is considered something of a modern day legend.

The 37-year-old started his career with Salford Red Devils – or Salford City Reds as they were known – back in 2007. He debuted against Gateshead Thunder and went on to make 108 appearances for the club.

He made the move to Warrington in 2012 and in his first year at the club, he got his hands on the Challenge Cup trophy. He was a runner up in successive Super League Grand Finals in 2012 and 2013 and featured in two more Grand Finals over the course of his career without winning at Old Trafford.

He did pick up the Challenge Cup for the second time in 2019, though, helping Steve Price’s Wolves beat St Helens.

Ratchford represented England on six occasions with two outings coming at the 2017 World Cup, while he was also involved in the 2018 Test series against New Zealand, starting at full-back at the Mile High Stadium in Denver.

As such, with more than 460 games of experience to fall back on, he has plenty of wisdom to offer those Warrington Wolves youngsters as a coach.
