Warrington Wolves facing 11 contract decisions in 2026 with key men off-contract

Warrington Wolves

Warrington Wolves are preparing to enter what looks set to be a huge year on and off the field for the club.

The Wolves hugely underperformed last season, finishing eighth in Super League and missing out on a spot in the play-offs as a result. Their form saw Sam Burgess come under huge pressure at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and it’s fair to say that he’ll be the head coach with most eyes on him when the Super League season gets underway.

However, Warrington have a raft of contract decisions to make too over the coming months as they plan for 2027 and beyond.

Of course, George Williams has already agreed to move on, with the half-back penning a deal to join NRL outfit Dolphins.

But, there are a number of players entering the final 12 months of their respect deals in Cheshire and Warrington must make a decision on all of them.

Here’s a look at Warrington’s contract situation.

Warrington Wolves contract state of play

2026: Toby King, Sam Powell, George Williams (NRL bound), Ben Currie, Luke Thomas, Joe Philbin, James Harrison, Matt Dufty, Luke Yates, Oli Leyland, James Bentley, Marc Sneyd.

What’s notable is a host of senior names are entering their final year at the club and it’s fair to assume that the club will be moving on from at least a couple. As mentioned above, Williams’ fate has already been decided meaning Warrington will likely be looking to bring in a new stand-off for 2027.

However, the fates of Sneyd, King and Powell might just depend on how they perform in the first few months of the 2026 campaign.

Dufty has been linked with a move away from Warrington and the decision to take the number one shirt off him appeared to be a clear indication of his standing at the club. Philbin, Harrison and Yates will all feel confident about their chances of earning a new deal and Currie will, too, given his status with the club.

Bentley has the motivation of playing for a new deal after joining from Leeds Rhinos, while eyes will be on Thomas and Leyland to earn a contract beyond the end of the campaign.

It should be noted that Sam Burgess’ deal with the club is up at the end of the 2026 season, too.

2027: Arron Lindop, Leon Hayes, Adam Holroyd, Cai Taylor-Wray, Max Wood, Tofofoa Sipley, Liam Byrne, Albert Hopoate, Josh Smith, Jordy Crowther, Jake Thewlis, Sam Stone, Kelepi Tanginoa.

Of the above names, five are new signings for the 2026 season, including Sam Stone, who spent last year on loan with the club.

Warrington will be pleased to have the futures of Lindop, Thewlis and Taylor-Wray wrapped up as they continue to develop, while Hayes, who saw his 2025 campaign blighted by injuries, is highly rated, too.

2028: Matty Ashton, Josh Thewlis

Wrapping the two wingers up long-term was a savvy call from Warrington. They’re highly thought of but they look set to be Warrington’s starting wingers for the next three seasons at least.

2029: Danny Walker

Walker did have NRL interest recently with Warrington turning down a bid. However, he has since extended his contract to ensure he will be with the Wolves long-term.

2030: Ewan Irwin

Irwin penned a five-year deal this month and that underlines just how highly he is rated at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
