Warrington Wolves confirmed they had beaten off competition from the NRL to keep hold of Danny Walker earlier this week. The hooker penned a deal that will see him remain at the Halliwell Jones Stadium until the end of 2029 Super League to give Warrington peace of mind regarding the future of one of their best and brightest.
Walker wasn’t off contract until 2026, but having his services wrapped up allows them to shift their focus elsewhere and tackle those with deals expiring this year. There’s a total of eight players in the final year of their deals at Warrington and with rules changing around when clubs can make contact with targets, they are essentially on the market now.
As such, Warrington might be keen to tie down some of those players before too long to limit the chance of losing them at the end of the season.
Rodrick Tai might just be one the club are keen to open discussions with following his impressive first year with the Wolves. The Papua New Guinea man managed to make a spot in Sam Burgess’ side his own last season and he’ll be keen to kick on in 2025 to secure his future.
Sam Powell signed a two-year deal when he made the switch from Wigan Warriors ahead of the 2024 campaign and made 32 appearances as he shared the hooker role with Danny Walker. He turns 33 this year, though, ensuring the club will likely be watching how he starts the season closely.

Toby King is in a testimonial year, with Warrington’s friendly with Leigh Leopards next month being held in his honour, and after scoring 12 tries last season he’ll be keen to secure another deal to ensure he will be with the Wolves into his 30s.
Connor Wrench is facing a big year as he looks to secure his future, while the same can be said for Jordan Crowther who joined the club on an initial loan in 2023.
Given he turns 37 this year, Stefan Ratchford will likely be given the time to make his own call later in the season. Paul Vaughan and Zane Musgrove are the remaining two off-contract players and the club will be thinking long and hard about the pair’s future.
Vaughan was briefly linked with a move back to the NRL at the back end of last year and the club will be keen to keep him on if he can perform to his usual high standards. As always with overseas signings though, what else is out there and available might come into Warrington Wolves’ thinking before final decisions are made.
