Warrington Wolves duo secure Championship loan deals

Warrington Wolves prop Max Wood

Warrington Wolves have secured Championship loan deals for two of their young prop forwards.

Max Wood and Lucas Green, who are both 20, will spend the next two weeks on loan at Widnes Vikings and Keighley Cougars respectively.

Wood spent parts of last season on loan at the Vikings and impressed head coach Allan Coleman, who was thrilled to get him back for some game time.

Coleman said: “To bring Max back to the club is great for us. He’s got bags of quality and is going to be a big name in Super League.

“I think people could see when we played Warrington that he is an absolute wrecking ball.”

Wood joined the Wolves in 2024 on a one-year deal following a pre-season trial after his release from Wigan Warriors at the end of the 2023 season.

The forward has had an impact at the club, according to head coach Sam Burgess, and was rewarded with a three-year extension at the end of the year.

Coleman added: “He’s got high energy, is really physical, and is hard to put down, which we’re going to need.

“He’s the perfect fit for us, so the longer we can keep him the better because he’ll add so much to the team.”

He joins Wigan fullback Noah Hodkinson at the Vikings, who has signed a two-week loan deal, as well as fellow Wolves player Alfie Johnson.

Widnes face Sheffield Eagles at home on Sunday 23rd.

Fellow prop Lucas Green will head to the Cougars as part of their dual registration agreement, wearing the number 29 shirt.

He made his Wolves debut in April 2023 against Wigan and in the same year, he served as the Academy side’s captain.

Green also spent time at the Vikings in 2024 on dual registration as well as at Bradford Bulls.

He’s been named in their 21-man squad to face Rochdale Hornets this weekend.

Green joins fellow Warrington Wolves youngsters Joe Bajer and Charlie Mckler at the Cougars.
