Warrington Wolves full-back Cai Taylor-Wray is set for a spell on the sidelines through injury, Sam Burgess has confirmed.
Taylor-Wray has emerged as one of the brightest young prospects in the game this season, with the full-back dazzling after taking the number one shirt at Warrington. The 20-year-old has scored four tries in four appearances this season with two coming during the Wolves’ first three Super League games.
However, he has become the latest Super League full-back to pick up an issue, after suffering a hamstring injury in training this week. It follows a spate of injuries to number ones across the league, with the likes of Will Pryce, Jai Field, Jack Welsby, Blake Taaffe and Arthur Mourgue being ruled out.
The youngster is now looking at a lay-off of between four and six weeks, ensuring he will miss Warrington’s Cup clash with Goole Vikings this weekend and upcoming Super League games against Castleford Tigers, Leeds Rhinos and potentially Leigh Leopards.
His presence will be missed by the Wolves, but Burgess will now be assessing his full-back options ahead of the coming weeks.
“I was planning on playing him [against Goole],” Burgess told BBC Radio Merseyside during this afternoon’s press conference.
“We were playing a few games [in training] on Tuesday and they were competing hard on a long-range break and as he dived to make the play he’s felt his hamstring.”
He added: “Ironically he was actually chasing Matty [Ashton] down – the boys compete hard in training and it’s just one of those things.
“He caught him, which he wanted me to let everyone know. It’s not as bad as it could have been so between four and six weeks is the early prognosis.”

This is getting ridiculous, one of my fantasy teams has three fullbacks, one out after appendicitis, another with a dodgy knee, now this one,,
I brought in the third fullback using a transfer because of fullback injuries, then bang! Bang! Bang! Gone!
