Warrington Wolves have announced the signing of their new number seven Josh Drinkwater having agreed a two-year deal.
Drinkwater joins the Wire from Catalan Dragons where he has played for the past two years.
The scrum half will bring plenty of quality to a Warrington side that is looking for a big bounce back season having finished 11th in 2022.
That quality was evident in his 2021 campaign in France where he helped the Dragons secure the League Leaders Shield as top of the assist charts, but unfortunately couldn’t see his side over the line in the Grand Final against St Helens.
He also lifted the Challenge Cup in his earlier stint with the Catalans side, helping secure victory in the 2018 final over his new side Warrington.
Drinkwater said: “I’m very excited about the move. I’ve played against Warrington many times and it’s always been a club that I’ve admired from afar.
“When the opportunity came up it was a very easy decision to make. I’ve enjoyed my time in France but I’m really looking forward to getting over now and embracing the English culture again.”
Head Coach Daryl Powell added: “I’m delighted that Josh has agreed to join us as we move forward into next season. He is a quality half-back who can organise a team superbly.
“His combination with George Williams is a well-balanced one that I am confident will contribute massively to what we aim to achieve in 2023.”
