George Williams will return for Warrington Wolves over the next few weeks, as he makes an early comeback from a neck injury.
The England captain was initially set to miss the rest of the season after a severe issue suffered in Perpignan put him on the sidelines for the long-term.
After surgery and plenty of rehab, the NRL-bound half-back will return to the Primrose and Blue jersey before the end of the year, and could do so across the Wolves’ upcoming period of three games in 10 days.
Warrington take on York on Thursday, before meeting Hull KR in the postponed round two clash on Tuesday 18th. They then take on Huddersfield the following Sunday.
Confirming to Sky Sports that Williams will make a comeback, head coach Sam Burgess said: “George will be back in the next couple of games. Whether it’s next week or the week after, he’ll be back in the next couple of games.”
However, the boss will have a huge decision to make, with the incredible form of young halves Ewan Irwin and Leon Hayes making it a very tough selection call when the time comes.
Commenting on the pair’s performance in today’s 42-4 win over Bradford Bulls, he said: “They’re going well. They’re great boys, such a pleasure to coach. Willing to learn and get better, humble young lads and local boys too, so I’m happy for those guys – they’re growing.”

Warrington Wolves boss assesses Bradford Bulls thumping
Offering his overall verdict on the seven-try performance, Burgess explained: “I thought the first half was a tough, tough half of rugby. We conceded first as well off a kick try, but I thought our defence was very tight otherwise. We looked very comfortable.
“A couple of moments in the second half defensively we can improve on but I thought overall, you’ve got to come here with the right attitude to win. It’s tough conditions, the field’s a little bit different to what we’re used to, so you’ve got to come with the right attitude and we did that.”
