Warrington Wolves and Wakefield Trinity make history as Super League confirm Grand Final sell-out

Super League

A ball has not even been kicked ahead of tonight’s Super League Grand Final but history has already been made as the RFL have confirmed that the clash at Old Trafford has sold out.

It marks the first time in the 29-year history of the Super League that the showpiece event has sold to capacity, with Old Trafford set to be full for tonight’s clash.

Ticket sales have been strong all year with record attendance hit across the entire season and now, Super League has done something it has never done and sold out the Grand Final.

Helping in that achievement is the fact that it’s Warrington Wolves and Wakefield Trinity playing in the big dance. For Sam Burgess’ side, it’s their first Grand Final since 2018 and for Trinity, it’s their first-ever in the history of the competition.

Making matters even more interesting is just how long each of these sides have waited for a first division league title. Whilst Wakefield won the Championship at a canter in 2024, they’ve not lifted silverware in the top flight since 1968.

For Warrington, the wait is even longer – 71 years – with their last league victory coming way back in 1955 before even the first motorway was built in the UK.

As such, there is guaranteed to be a new name on the Super League trophy and the fans of both clubs, as well as neutrals, have responded by selling out Old Trafford for tonight’s game.

It means that if you have not got a ticket then the only way to watch is via Sky Sports or via Super League+, where the game can be purchased for £7.99.

Super League Grand Final sell-out confirmed

A statement from the RFL confirmed the incredible news of tonight’s sell-out, announcing: “The Betfred Super League Grand Final is officially sold out, with a capacity crowd set to bring the curtain down on a record-breaking season.

“The Grand Final sell-out caps a season that has already seen record-breaking crowds across the Betfred Super League, including a bumper Magic Weekend attendance and strong crowds throughout the campaign.”

Rhodri Jones, the managing director of RL Commercial, said: “Selling out the Betfred Super League Grand Final is a fantastic way to finish what has been a landmark season for the competition.

“To then pass two million attendances across the season for the first time is another significant milestone and a reflection of the incredible support our clubs and players have received throughout 2026.

“We’re incredibly proud of the numbers, but most importantly of the atmosphere and energy our fans have created at grounds across the country this year.

“Now we have a sold-out Old Trafford to look forward to, with everything in place for a brilliant Grand Final.”
