It really was a highly-entertaining fixture, with the sides level at the break at 18-18.

But, Wakefield were superb in the second forty minutes with halfback Mason Lino enjoying a brilliant performance as Trinity ran out 38-22 winners – and it was just deserved.

Matty Ashton’s try in the opening exchanges showed his electric speed as he ran 80 metres, rounding Morgan Escare in the process.

Wakefield’s third try was incredible – it involved a superb Matty Ashurst offload and then a brilliant Tom Johnstone offload for Corey Hall to go over in the corner.

Mason Lino’s try in he second-half was just deserved – and it was a cracking effort.

It was Matty Ashurst’s 150th Wakefield appearance and he certainly made it count with a well-taken try.

Talking points

1. Defences not on top

There was superb attacking skill on show throughout, but there was also some poor defence. It was 18-18 at half-time with six tries in the first-half.

2. What is wrong at Warrington?

Warrington again looked pretty dour with some awful mistakes in terms of discipline and errors. The way in which they were cut up on numerous occasions would not have pleased head coach Daryl Powell.

3. Mason the man

How good was Mason Lino? The halfback cut apart Warrington with his wicked sidestep and deserved his try in the second-half. The South Sea Islander has certainly stepped up to the mantle in 2022 and he was vital to Trinity’s efforts.
