Warrington Wolves’ 2025 shirt numbers confirmed with starters hinted at

Warrington Wolves have revealed their squad numbers for the 2025 season which has provided key hints regarding position battles.

Squad numbers don’t always correlate to who will be in the first team, especially with all of pre-season to come, but they generally give an early indicator to a player’s standing in the team.

Of course, there are outliers as well with certain players opting for their own number. Sam Tomkins donning the number 29 is one of the best examples of this, but by and large, a starting full-back will be the number one.

That is the case for Warrington Wolves in 2025 as Matt Dufty once again claims the number one shirt, anchoring the backline as he did so brilliantly in 2024.

There is a number change in that backline though with club captain Stefan Rachford dropping out of the number four shirt and Rodrick Tai ascending to the shirt.

After a shakey start to 2024, Tai was exceptional and has rightly earned that number four shirt after wearing 14 in 2024.

The squad number reveal also features new cross-code signing Alfie Johnson.

Warrington Wolves confirm squad numbers for 2025

Among the other changes is Leon Hayes being handed the number seven shirt following the departure of Josh Drinkwater.

Hayes had impressed enough to usurp Drinkwater in the starting squad but his season was cut short by injury. He’ll now compete with new signing Oli Leyland (18) to play alongside George Williams.

Another new signing, Luke Yates, takes a ‘starting’ number as he dons 13 which had been worn by Matty Nicholson who has now left for the NRL.

Papua New Guinea international Dan Russell who has been signed for the 2025 season takes the number 26 which had been handed to the recently departed Wesley Bruines in 2024. Despite his shirt number, Russell will be expected to be in the matchday squad.
