Warrington express interest in pilot events

Warrington Wolves have announced they have informed the RFL of their interest in holding pilot events at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The government announced on Monday that fans could return to stadiums no earlier than 17th May.

The FA Cup Final and Carabao Cup Final have been mooted as potential trial events for letting crowds back into stadiums.

Warrington themselves have hosted several Super League rounds behind closed doors during the 2020 season.

A statement on the club website reads: “Monday’s update on fans returning to sports stadia indicates a limited number of spectators could return to The Halliwell Jones Stadium from May 17 2021.

“The Club have also expressed an interest to the Rugby Football League to take part in any pilot events prior to this date should the opportunities arise.

“Furthermore, larger crowds could return after the key date of June 21 2021 which should see the lifting of most Covid restrictions in the country.

“The Halliwell Jones Stadium has safely held numerous Super League fixtures behind closed doors, and we are more than confident that the venue is Covid-complient to allow the safe return of spectators in the coming months.”
