Warrington 0-19 Hull KR: Player ratings and major talking points

Despite finishing bottom in 2020, Hull KR are now just eighty minutes away from a first ever Grand Final appearance thanks to their gutsy showing away at Warrington tonight. Now can they keep the impossible dream alive in France next week?

Major Talking Points:

1. Hull KR’s halves shine against big name opponents

Warrington fought off plenty of competition to acquire the services of the brilliant George Williams this year having secured the signature of the classy Gareth Widdop last year. Both know how to win big games and both have been considered England’s best halfback at one stage or another. Meanwhile, very few outside Hull KR knew of Mikey Lewis’ potential before 2021 whilst Jordan Abdull had been written off as average. Well, the duo ripped Warrington to shreds tonight and proved the difference. Whether it was the attacking subtleties from Abdull or Lewis’ amazing try, they produced it all to take the Robins into the final four.

2. We’re now guaranteed a new name in the Grand Final

Hull KR’s win sees them make the trip over to France next week for a seismic clash with league leaders Catalans with a place at Old Trafford waiting. It means we’re now guaranteed a new team in the Grand Final and it would take a fool to right off Hull KR. Their plucky attitude and attacking style makes them a major threat. Could they force their way into an unlikely Grand Final after finishing bottom last year? Why not.

3. Price era ends on scrappy note

If I had one criticism of Steve Price’s time at Warrington, it’s that they’ve always blown hot and cold. When they’ve played key games sometimes they’ve been outstanding and others they’ve been scrappy. Today they were the latter as they turned in an error strewn performance as their season ended along with Price’s period as Head Coach.
