Wane to coach in the NRL?

Shaun Wane is eyeing a return to rugby league but not in England.

The former Wigan boss has his sights set on the NRL after an interesting interview with Fox Sports Australia.

After leaving his hometown Warriors to take up a role with Scotland RU at the end of last season, Wane has been linked with a return to the 13-man code.

At one stage he was joint-favourite to become the new Leeds Rhinos head coach after admitting he was open to talks with the Headingley outfit.

However, it now seems that the 54-year-old is keen to test his coaching abilities down under in the near future.

“I’ve always been a big admirer of the NRL and the Australian game,” Wane told Fox Sports.

“I’d very much like to get an opportunity to test myself as a head coach in the NRL.

“I played with loads of Australian players and I’ve coached loads of Australian players so the interest has always been huge.

“There’s no better challenge than testing yourself in the toughest arena and on a week-to-week basis, that’s the NRL.

“I’ve had success in Super League, now I want to transfer that to the NRL.”
